2026 Heatwave Forces Adjustments to France's Fête de la Musique Amid Record Temperatures

On June 21, 2026, France endured an exceptional heatwave with temperatures soaring above 42°C in many areas and red heatwave alerts affecting 35 departments, later expanded to 49. This extreme weather impacted the annual Fête de la Musique festival across the country, especially in Paris.

Authorities implemented strict measures to protect public safety during the festival. Notably, alcohol consumption was banned in public spaces within several departments, including Paris, to reduce risks related to dehydration and heat exhaustion. The festival proceeded but under heightened surveillance with some events canceled or adapted due to the heat.
