94% of Gironde Businesses Struggle Amid Economic Pressures in Q2 2026

A recent report by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Bordeaux Gironde reveals that 94% of businesses in Gironde faced significant difficulties in the second quarter of 2026. The primary challenges were declining revenue, cash flow, and profit margins, linked mainly to a 40% drop in demand. Inflation impacted 30% of firms, while rising fuel costs and increased business charges affected 16% and 15%, respectively. Investment levels plummeted, with only 16% of companies investing during this period, signaling low confidence in the economic outlook.

The hospitality sector is particularly vulnerable, showing only 42% confidence in their sustainability. The construction and public works sectors also report shrinking order books. Meanwhile, judicial procedures have surged, with 703 cases recorded, alongside a noticeable decline in new business creations — 6,871 compared to 8,844 the previous year. Overall, less than 60% of business leaders remain confident about their companies' futures, and only 12% exhibit optimism toward the national economy.

These statistics highlight a region grappling with severe economic headwinds, with businesses cutting back on investments and struggling to maintain operations amid falling demand and rising costs. The CCI’s data underscore the urgent need for economic support and recovery strategies in Gironde to stabilize and revive the local business environment.
