Air France Suspends Paris-Havana Flights Amid Cuban Fuel Shortage

Air France announced on March 4, 2026, that it will suspend its flights from Paris to Havana beginning March 29 due to a significant fuel shortage in Cuba. The suspension is expected to last until at least June 15, pending improvements in Cuba's fuel supply situation. Until now, Air France operated three weekly flights between Paris Charles de Gaulle and Havana using Boeing 787 aircraft.

This fuel crisis is part of a broader impact on Cuba's economy and tourism sector and is primarily caused by a U.S. blockade that has prevented oil shipments to Cuba since January 9, following the capture of former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro. According to Cuban airport authorities, the fuel shortage could continue until April 10. To manage the crisis, Air France had been making technical stops in the Bahamas to refuel its aircraft.

The suspension of Air France flights follows similar moves by several other airlines, including Russian carriers Rossiya and Nordwind and three Canadian airlines, which have also halted services to Cuba due to the same issue. Customers affected by the cancellations will be offered options to rebook, receive credit, or obtain full refunds at no cost.

The airline stated that flights will resume only if the fuel supply situation on the island improves, with the earliest possible restart date being June 15.
