Coupe de France 2026: First Round Surprises and Second Round Draws Announced

The first round of the 2026 Coupe de France football tournament saw notable surprises and clear winners across several French regions, with the draw for the second round now set to continue the competition.

In the Médoc region, ten clubs competed with only three advancing. Beychevelle (Division 3) and Vendays (Division 2) achieved impressive victories over higher-ranked teams. Beychevelle drew 1-1 against Eysines (Division 1) before prevailing 5-4 in penalties, demonstrating the potential of lower-tier teams. Vendays secured a 2-0 win against Macau (Regional 3) with goals from Duguet in the 17th minute and Kougolo Kapia in the 79th. Conversely, teams like Ludon and Avensan Moulis Listrac suffered heavy defeats, losing 5-0 and 6-0 respectively. Jean-Claude Bricout, president of Médoc clubs, highlighted the quality of matches despite these losses. Macau's Éric Ruez acknowledged the need for improvement after their defeat.

In the Hauts-de-France region, twelve matches were contested with six local teams progressing. FC Oisemont impressed with an overwhelming 8-0 victory over Avenir Croisien. Other victories included US Le Boisle's 1-0 win over SC Templiers Oisemont, AS Quesnoy-le-Montant's 3-0 against AC Hallencourt, and Blangy SEP's 3-0 win against US Vron. One match, between FC Mareuil-Caubert Huchenneville and Amiens CSA Montières, was stopped while the home team led 2-0, with league authorities currently deciding the official result.

Looking ahead, the second round draw for clubs in Finistère was held on August 24 at the District headquarters in Châteaulin, with matches scheduled for August 30. This round introduces Regional 2 teams, creating exciting cross-division encounters. Notable upcoming fixtures include Plonéour (R3) vs. Pluguffan (D1) and Plogastel (D1) vs. Stade Quimperlois (R2), reflecting the tournament’s diverse local talent.
