Cyberattack Disrupts La Poste Online Services in Critical Pre-Christmas Period

On December 22, 2025, La Poste faced a major cyberattack that severely disrupted its online services and digital platforms during the crucial Christmas peak period. The attack rendered key websites—including those for La Poste, Colissimo, La Banque Postale, and the digital identity service—completely inaccessible, causing significant operational challenges.

Marie-Ange Debon, who assumed the presidency of La Poste on October 21, is managing her first major crisis as the institution wrestles with this digital attack. Despite the disruption to online platforms, physical mail and parcel deliveries continued unaffected, both to homes and in agencies, ensuring ongoing service for customers relying on traditional operations.

Banking services remained functional at physical post offices, and cash withdrawals were uninterrupted at ATMs. However, online payments required a deviation from the normal protocol—transactions had to be authenticated via SMS instead of the customary Certicode service, reflecting adjustments made to maintain service while mitigating security risks.

By late afternoon on December 22, online services were still down, as La Poste worked to resolve the aftermath of the cyberattack. This incident underscores the vulnerabilities in digital infrastructures, especially for key public service providers during peak periods.
