Economic Crisis Cell Activated to Support Gironde Businesses Amid 2026 Wildfires

The ongoing wildfires in the Gironde region have prompted an urgent economic response, with Bordeaux Mayor Thomas Cazenave announcing the activation of an "economic crisis cell" to assist businesses severely affected by the disaster. Over 200,000 residents have been evacuated, and approximately 3,400 hectares of forest have been consumed by the flames, leading to significant disruptions in the local economy.

Mayor Cazenave formally requested government help from Minister of Economy Roland Lescure, who approved the creation of the crisis cell. This unit aims to support businesses, especially those located in evacuated zones, many of which face considerable operational challenges. The Bordeaux Gironde Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) has also launched a support unit, including a dedicated hotline (3006), to help enterprises navigate available aid and economic relief.
