Farmers Protest Against Agricultural Import Policies in Versailles

Farmers across France are intensifying their protests against government agricultural import policies, with a significant gathering occurring in Versailles on September 26, 2025. Approximately 100 farmers accompanied by 20 tractors demonstrated to voice their concerns over imports that threaten local agricultural standards. Arnaud Rousseau, president of the FNSEA (Fédération nationale des syndicats d’exploitants agricoles), emphasized the urgency for a meeting with Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu. He warned that failure to address their demands could lead to further mobilizations this winter, stating, "On reviendra s’il y a besoin cet hiver" (We will return if necessary this winter).

The protest numbers were lower than anticipated due to ongoing harvests, yet Rousseau underlined the critical importance of reinforcing French agricultural policies, especially those ensuring imports meet French and European standards. He expressed concerns regarding the risks to French agriculture if these issues remain unresolved, particularly if other countries stop supplying essential food products.
