First Confirmed Ebola Case in France in 2026: Doctor Returning from DRC Diagnosed and Isolated

On June 24, 2026, France confirmed its first ever case of Ebola diagnosed on metropolitan territory. The patient is a humanitarian doctor who had recently returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where a significant Ebola outbreak has been ongoing since mid-May. Upon arrival in France, the doctor was immediately isolated in a specialized medical facility and remains in stable condition.

French health authorities and the Ministry of Health emphasized strict biological safety protocols, including the use of negative pressure rooms for secure patient transfer to prevent any risk of virus contamination. An extensive epidemiological investigation is underway to identify anyone who may have come into contact with the patient. Those identified will be closely monitored and required to self-isolate at home for 21 days.
