France Sets Up Sophisticated Boston Base for 2026 World Cup Preparations

The French national football team has arrived in the United States and established their base camp in Boston as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The team will remain in Boston for the duration of the tournament, with their first match scheduled against Senegal in New York. This move marks a critical phase in their campaign to secure a third World Cup title.

The training facility at Bentley University, where the team will practice, has been meticulously prepared. The pitch is surrounded by three-meter-high fencing to prevent espionage, a security concern stemming from past experiences. The players will have access to a modern gymnasium, a spacious locker room, and comprehensive medical and recovery amenities, including recovery pools. Vaughn Williams, the university's sports director, emphasized the quality and security of these preparations.

Accommodation arrangements include a luxurious hotel in downtown Boston, selected personally by head coach Didier Deschamps to ensure maximum comfort and team cohesion. The hotel has been fully privatized for the team and features elegant lounges, a swimming pool, and well-designed dining areas. While the standard room rate is about 800 euros per night, the French Football Federation has negotiated favorable terms, with part of the expenses subsidized by FIFA.

Prior to their departure, the team completed a series of warm-up matches in France, including a notable 3-0 victory over Northern Ireland thanks to Michael Olise’s hat-trick and a 1-2 loss to Côte d'Ivoire, which was Didier Deschamps’ final home game as coach. During this match, Deschamps was honored with a tribute from the crowd. French President Emmanuel Macron also visited the team at Clairefontaine before their journey to Boston, underscoring the national importance of the World Cup challenge.
