France Withdraws Tavneos from Market Following Reports of Patient Deaths Abroad

The French health authorities have withdrawn the drug Tavneos from the French market due to safety concerns after multiple deaths were reported among patients treated abroad. Tavneos, which is aimed at treating certain rare autoimmune diseases, has been linked to about 20 patient deaths in Japan since its launch in 2022, according to the pharmaceutical group Kissei that markets the drug there. In France, around 600 patients have been prescribed Tavneos, according to the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM).

The decision comes amid growing scrutiny over Tavneos's safety profile after these fatal cases emerged internationally. Health regulators in France opted for the withdrawal as a precautionary measure to protect patients while further investigations into the drug's risks continue.
