Intense Efforts and Safety Measures as Forest Fires Rage in Southeastern France

The southeastern region of France, particularly around the Gros Bessillon area, is currently battling severe forest fires exacerbated by high mistral winds and soaring temperatures. On August 7, authorities report that mistral winds exceeding 55 km/h are expected to impact the area, alongside extreme heat reaching nearly 40°C, creating challenging conditions for firefighting operations.

Recent incidents in other regions like Seine-Maritime highlight how careless actions such as burning green waste or discarding cigarette butts have led to destructive fires. Officials emphasize the importance of preventive safety measures — avoiding smoking in forests, extinguishing cigarettes properly, refraining from barbecues near vegetation, and ensuring outdoor activities do not generate sparks.

Fire safety protocols also urge the public to alert firefighters immediately upon noticing flames by calling emergency numbers 18 or 112, providing precise locations, and ensuring clear access for emergency services.
