Jean-David Ciot Declares Candidacy for 2026 Senatorial Elections, Emphasizes Local Governance Experience

Jean-David Ciot, mayor of Puy-Sainte-Réparade since 2008 and former deputy in the National Assembly from 2012 to 2017, has officially announced his candidacy for the 2026 senatorial elections in Bouches-du-Rhône. He made this revelation through a letter sent to local mayors in mid-July, a novel form of communication aimed at securing support ahead of the elections scheduled for September 2026.

Ciot underlined the importance of having senators with firsthand experience in local governance, arguing that of the eight senators to be elected in the department, at least one should understand the responsibilities of local mayors. The election process is distinct from general public voting, as approximately 3,700 grand electors, not the public, will select the senators. He acknowledged potential political differences with some mayors and the challenges in securing votes across party lines but stressed the need for credible local leadership at the national level.
