Jonas Vingegaard, the Danish cyclist and two-time Tour de France champion, has announced the premature end of his 2026 season following a clavicle fracture sustained during the 15th stage of the Tour de France. This injury forced him to abandon the race and shift his focus entirely to recovery and preparation for the 2027 season.

In a statement from his team, Visma-Lease a bike, Vingegaard outlined that while a recovery period had been planned post-Tour, the injury will inevitably delay his return to peak form and training. Vingegaard emphasized the importance of a thorough recovery and collaboration with his team to establish a tailored training program for the upcoming season.

Team director Marc Reef supported the decision, noting the importance of prioritizing health after such a demanding competitive stretch and injury. Vingegaard had enjoyed a remarkable 2026 season before the injury, securing victories at Paris-Nice, the Tour of Catalonia, and the Giro d'Italia.
