The Journées Européennes de l'Archéologie (JEA) is set to occur from June 13 to 15, 2025, across France and 30 other European countries. Organized by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Institut national de recherches archéologiques préventives (Inrap), this annual event is dedicated to promoting archaeology and enhancing public understanding of the discipline.
This year's edition aims to feature over a thousand activities nationwide, which will include excavations, educational workshops, exhibitions, and special events at museums and research centers. In total, 26 Villages of Archaeology will be established, offering engaging platforms for interaction with both specialists and the public. Notable cities set to participate include Lyon, Paris, Bordeaux, and Toulouse, each presenting unique offerings to explore archaeological practices and recent findings.
In Lyon, the Village of Archaeology will occur for the 10th consecutive time, showcasing a plethora of activities including workshops, demonstrations, and conferences in prominent venues such as the Centre Berthelot, Comœdia cinema, and the Théâtre L’Île Ô. The Centre Berthelot will serve as the central hub for events, while the Comœdia will hold a special film screening followed by discussions on cultural heritage, and the Théâtre L’Île Ô, a floating theater on the Rhône, will host accessible workshops.
As the event approaches, the full schedule and additional information will be made available on the official JEA website, encouraging widespread participation in celebrating and learning about archaeology.
