Le Cigref Supports Eurostack to Strengthen EU's Digital Sovereignty with €300 Billion Investment

Le Cigref, a leading French enterprise network, has endorsed the Eurostack initiative, a tri-national effort involving France, Germany, and the Netherlands, aimed at drastically reducing the European Union’s reliance on non-European technology providers. The initiative plans a substantial investment of €300 billion over the next ten years to build a strong European technological foundation.

A core aspect of Eurostack’s strategy is leveraging public procurement policies to prioritize European digital solutions that use open and interoperable components. This approach directly addresses the longstanding dependency on primarily American digital infrastructure, which exposes critical EU data to legal vulnerabilities under the US Cloud Act.

In parallel, the Direction interministérielle du numérique (DINUM) is advancing the "Suite numérique," a collaborative digital project designed to offer European administrations a suite of tools for messaging and collaboration built on sovereign infrastructures. This initiative exemplifies the practical steps being taken to establish credible, European-led digital service offerings.

Le Cigref emphasizes that regaining digital autonomy is crucial to meet current economic and legal challenges. Chief information officers (DSI) and information security officers (RSSI) within major organizations must anticipate shifts in procurement policies toward European solutions to ensure data sovereignty, especially in regulated sectors where the demand for sovereignty is intensifying.

According to Le Cigref, fostering interoperable and openly designed digital components is vital to the success of the Eurostack initiative, which combines public sector collaboration and strategic investments to reinforce Europe's technological independence.
