Macron Holds Third High-Level Meeting on Narcotrafic and Security Measures Including Antilles Focus

French President Emmanuel Macron convened his third meeting since the assassination of Mehdi Kessaci to discuss the government's ongoing efforts to combat narcotrafic and related security challenges. The meeting, held on January 29, brought together four ministers: Laurent Nuñez (Interior), Amélie de Montchalin (Public Accounts), Gérald Darmanin (Justice), and Jean-Noël Barrot (Foreign Affairs).

Key topics included assessing the progress of previously established policies following the narcotrafic law passed in June 2025. The ministers reviewed the operational status of the newly created national anti-crime prosecution office (Pnaco), which was officially inaugurated on January 5 with Vanessa Perrée appointed as its head. Efficient deployment of scanners at ports and airports featured prominently to strengthen border controls.

Special attention was dedicated to the narcotrafic situation in the Antilles, a region experiencing heightened security concerns. Discussions highlighted the need for targeted strategies to tackle the persistent drug trafficking networks impacting these territories. Macron’s urgency in addressing narcotrafic was underscored by his statements during a December visit to Marseille condemning networks that destroy young lives.

International cooperation in police and judicial domains was also discussed, reflecting the transnational nature of drug trafficking. Macron has also engaged directly with French troops abroad, notably in the UAE, emphasizing the global dimension of this fight.

This meeting continues the French government's intensive focus on narcotrafic following the high-profile killing of Mehdi Kessaci, aiming to translate legislative measures into concrete actions to safeguard public security and vulnerable communities across mainland France and overseas territories.
