Macron Proposes Plan to Halt Hezbollah-Israel Military Actions, Supports Lebanese Stability

French President Emmanuel Macron is actively pursuing a diplomatic and military strategy to prevent Lebanon from becoming embroiled in renewed conflict between Hezbollah and Israel. On March 5, Macron announced his intention to "establish a plan" that would stop military operations from both sides, emphasizing that "everything must be done" to avoid further clashes along the Israel-Lebanon border.

In high-level talks with Lebanese authorities, including President Joseph Aoun and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri—who have requested French intervention for a ceasefire—Macron outlined measures to reinforce Lebanese national security. France will provide armored transport vehicles and operational support to the Lebanese Armed Forces to help them take control over Hezbollah positions and maintain stability. Macron stressed that Hezbollah must immediately cease fire towards Israel, while calling on Israel to avoid any major ground incursions into Lebanese territory. He further urged Hezbollah to disarm and operate in Lebanon's national interest, free from foreign influence, to unite Lebanese citizens in preserving their country's sovereignty.

This intervention follows ongoing Israeli military operations targeting Hezbollah targets, as part of a broader campaign including U.S. involvement focused on curtailing Iran's regional influence. Despite a ceasefire brokered by the U.S. and France in November 2024, violations continue, prompting renewed diplomatic efforts. Macron has communicated directly with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, urging restraint and the protection of Lebanon's territorial integrity.

In addition to military support, France is dispatching humanitarian aid to assist tens of thousands of Lebanese civilians fleeing violence in southern Lebanon. Immediate shipments include several tons of medical supplies and shelter solutions aimed at alleviating the humanitarian crisis.

Macron's statements convey France's commitment to stabilizing Lebanon amid escalating regional tensions, reinforcing the Lebanese state's authority while seeking an end to hostilities fueled by Hezbollah-Israel confrontations.
