Marine Le Pen to Attend Brigitte Bardot's Funeral Amid National Tribute Debate

French political leader Marine Le Pen will attend the funeral of Brigitte Bardot, the iconic French actress and animal rights advocate who passed away on December 28 at the age of 91. The service is scheduled for January 7, 2026, in Saint-Tropez, where Bardot wished to be laid to rest. Le Pen, leader of the Rassemblement national (RN), previously received Bardot's support and has paid tribute to her as an “exceptional woman” embodying the French spirit.

Despite a proposal by the French presidency to organize a national tribute for Bardot, her family has not responded to the offer. Eric Ciotti, president of the Union of the Rights for the Republic and an RN ally, has petitioned President Emmanuel Macron to arrange a republican ceremony honorably akin to the one for singer Johnny Hallyday in 2017. The funeral arrangements include a private burial at Bardot’s seaside home, La Madrague, followed by a public homage in Saint-Tropez for residents and admirers to share memories. Saint-Tropez mayor Sylvie Siri has committed to ensuring dignified ceremonies that respect Bardot’s wishes.

While national honor remains undecided, the funeral will prominently feature Marine Le Pen’s presence, highlighting Bardot’s political ties and her place as a cultural symbol in France.
