OSTERODE Project in Lyon Champions Circular Economy in Sustainable Urban Development

The OSTERODE project, presented by Chloé Chetelat and Médéric Fossard, is transforming a 15-hectare former military site in Rillieux-la-Pape near Lyon into a mixed-use area spanning 60,000 m², focused on economic activities, services, and housing. Central to the project is the integration of circular economy principles aimed at minimizing environmental impact through strategies like increasing permeable surfaces and reusing construction materials such as concrete.

A significant partnership with a local social economy resource center facilitates recycling of demolition materials for reuse within the project, reflecting a commitment to sustainable practices. To reinforce these goals, the 2EC label was introduced at the project's outset to support waste reduction and ensure rigorous tracking of sustainability actions.
