Paris to Host the 2026 Esports World Cup, Marking a Milestone for France

Paris will host the 2026 Esports World Cup from July 6 to August 23, 2026, the first time this multi-game global championship is held outside Saudi Arabia. The decision to relocate the event, prompted by regional conflict concerns in the Middle East, was welcomed by French President Emmanuel Macron, who expressed pride in Paris's infrastructure and cultural significance. Macron stated, “L’EWC se jouera à Paris!” and acknowledged Saudi Arabia's initial trust in the event.

This prestigious tournament will gather over 2,000 professional players representing 200 clubs from more than 100 countries. Competitions will be held across 25 different video games, including top titles such as League of Legends and Dota 2, reflecting the event's scale and diversity. The esports community regards the World Cup as an Olympics-like event, organized by clubs rather than nations.

France, a leading European destination for esports since 2015, will see three of its home clubs—Team Vitality, Gentle Mates, and Karmine Corp—compete in front of a passionate local audience. The event is viewed as recognition of the decade-long collective efforts of France’s esports industry, supported by the government and local authorities.

Ralf Reichert of the Esports Foundation emphasized that the move to Paris ensures player safety and accessibility, making it an ideal choice for the tournament. With esports boasting over 12 million players in France, the World Cup is expected to bolster tourism, culture, and local engagement in the capital.
