Pogacar Reclaims Yellow Jersey with Dominant Stage 6 Win at Tour de France 2026

Tadej Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates-XRG delivered a commanding performance in the sixth stage of the 2026 Tour de France, a grueling route from Pau to Gavarnie-Gèdre featuring climbs like the Col d'Aspin and the iconic Col du Tourmalet. Launching a decisive attack over four kilometers from the summit, Pogacar managed to create surprising time gaps over his rivals, ultimately regaining the yellow jersey after previous leader Torstein Træen suffered a fall on the descent of the Tourmalet.

Pogacar credited his team’s strong preparation and energetic support, highlighting key contributions from teammates Tim Wellens and Florian Vermeersch. He acknowledged some regret that young rider Isaac del Toro, who has been impressive as the best young rider, could not stay with him towards the end. Despite the challenging terrain ahead, Pogacar expressed confidence in maintaining his overall lead in the upcoming stages.

Following the sixth stage, Pogacar leads the general classification with a cumulative time of 21 hours, 11 minutes and 57 seconds. He holds a 2-minute 42-second advantage over Jonas Vingegaard of Visma-Lease a Bike and a 3-minute 27-second lead over Isaac del Toro. Pogacar also tops the mountains classification with 28 points, while the points classification is currently led by Mads Pedersen of Lidl-Trek with 168 points. 

Lidl-Trek remains the leading team in the overall classification, although UAE Team Emirates-XRG sits close behind. The race started in Barcelona with 184 riders across 23 teams, including notable contenders such as Remco Evenepoel from Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe. Attrition from the race has been significant with some riders abandoning due to the intense competition.

With still over two weeks of racing ahead, Pogacar’s strong showing and tactical edge position him as a formidable favorite for the overall victory in this year’s Tour de France, demonstrating both individual strength and a cohesive team effort. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as the race transitions into more diverse terrain in the stages to come.
