As the March 17 deadline for submitting second-round candidate lists closes, a significant political alliance has emerged in the 2026 Paris municipal elections. Rachida Dati of Les Républicains and Pierre-Yves Bournazel of Horizons have joined forces to consolidate right-leaning votes and challenge the left-wing dominance in the city.

Dati, who was re-elected as mayor of Paris's 7th arrondissement and garnered 25.46% of votes in the first round, had previously stated intentions to keep her list unchanged. However, recognizing the strategic advantage, she shifted her stance and agreed to merge lists with Bournazel, who obtained 11.34% of votes, slightly trailing La France Insoumise's Sophia Chikirou at 11.73%. The left coalition's Emmanuel Grégoire led the first round with 37.98%.

The alliance aims to achieve political alternation after 25 years of left-wing governance in Paris. According to Dati, the coalition is founded on common goals rather than compromising their individual projects. Key measures include bolstering child protection in extracurricular activities, prioritizing workers in social housing, promoting social home ownership, and driving ecological transformation within the city.

The merged electoral list will reflect the proportional voting strength from the first round, with Bournazel taking the second position. Notably, Dati and Bournazel had not met face-to-face for nearly three years prior to this agreement, marking a significant political reconciliation after periods of mutual criticism and differing approaches on governance and ecology.

This coalition reflects a strategic effort to unify fragmented right-wing factions and present a viable alternative to the entrenched left-wing administration. With the deadline for final list submissions at 6 PM on March 17, this alliance marks a crucial development in shaping the Paris political landscape for the upcoming municipal elections.
