Rassemblement National Strengthens Amid 2026 French Electoral Survey Ahead of 2027 Presidential Race

The April 2026 French Electoral Survey reveals a tense and evolving political landscape in France with the Rassemblement National (RN) emerging as the clear beneficiary ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Conducted by Ipsos for Le Monde, Cevipof, and the Jean-Jaurès Foundation, the survey collected responses from over 10,000 French citizens, highlighting critical shifts in party strength and voter priorities.

Remarkably, 74% of respondents believe the RN has emerged stronger following recent municipal elections, while major parties like Renaissance and the Ecologists are perceived as weakened by 80% and 85% of those surveyed, respectively. Left-wing alliances face significant challenges at the national level, compounded by the unpopularity of Jean-Luc Mélenchon; 73% of the French public are unlikely to vote for La France Insoumise, and 81% are dissatisfied with the prospect of a Mélenchon presidency.

Interest in the upcoming presidential election is notably high, with 86% of French citizens engaged, underscoring a widespread demand for substantive societal transformation. Voter priorities include preserving the healthcare system (76%), improving purchasing power (66%), and enhancing educational outcomes (56%). The political environment is marked by a significant public divide on radicalism, as 63% feel there are too many radical ideas in politics, while 55% express a preference for leaders open to compromise.

Despite broad support for primary elections across factions, political unity, particularly on the right, remains fractured, with only 20% of Horizons party supporters endorsing the inclusion of Éric Zemmour's Reconquête in such processes. Analysts note that while the RN is gaining ground, other parties are struggling to maintain relevance, setting the stage for a highly contested and unpredictable presidential race.

Antoine Bristielle, director of the Jean-Jaurès Foundation Opinion Observatory, summarized the situation by emphasizing the "strong tensions" prevailing ahead of 2027, fueled by a "massive demand for transformation" and persistent socio-economic concerns.
