Seven Political Groups Formed in Saint-Etienne's 2026 Municipal Council

Following the 2026 municipal elections in Saint-Etienne, the newly elected municipal council has organized itself into seven distinct political groups, a notable rise from the four groups present in the 2020 council. The left-wing majority is composed of three groups, including Saint-Etienne Demain, accumulating 25 out of the 43 council members. This majority comprises socialists and various other left-leaning parties.

The opposition, which was previously unified under Dino Cinieri's leadership, has split into two separate groups. The division is a strategic move designed to ensure balanced and effective representation during council debates. Opposition members Lionel Boucher and Quentin Bataillon have emphasized this strategy to enhance their voice against the majority.

In managing resources, the majority plans to share facilities such as a common office to prevent excessive expenses, while allowing individual expression within the coalition. Council leadership, including Mayor Régis Juanico and Adjointe Isabelle Dumestre, have pledged adequate resource allocation to all groups. However, opposition members have voiced concerns relating to resource management practices used in past councils.
