Initially, the course is relatively flat, allowing riders to maintain higher speeds before they confront more strenuous sections, particularly in the last 40 kilometers where critical climbs await. The stage features three significant categorized climbs: the Côte de Chabannes, measuring 1.4 kilometers with a gradient of 5.2%, placed 35 kilometers from the finish; followed by the Côte du Peyroux, which spans 3.3 kilometers at a gradient of 4.3%, occurring 23 kilometers before the finish line. The final ascent, Le Maupuy, is a 2.8-kilometer climb with a gradient of 5.4%, located just 10 kilometers prior to the end, making it a pivotal point for competitors aiming for stage victory.
The FDJ-Suez team is highlighting this stage as a crucial event, given that it represents their home stage, passing their service course in Jaunay-Marigny early in the race.
