Tensions Rise in Beaucaire Following Communal and Community Council Elections

On April 17, Nelson Chaudon was elected president of the Communauté de communes Beaucaire Terre d'Argence, a momentum that fueled heated debates in Beaucaire's municipal council regarding the 2025 accounts and 2026 budget. Chaudon, representing the Rassemblement National, defended the administration's fiscal discipline, noting a debt repayment capacity of about 4.2 years, net savings increasing to 4.4 million euros, and no tax hikes in the past decade. He highlighted visible progress for Beaucairois residents, supported by the recent municipal elections where the ruling majority secured over 60% of votes.

However, opposition voices, notably Luc Perrin from Unis pour Beaucaire, criticized the budgetary report, asserting that financial statistics did not mirror the quality of public services. They emphasized persistent underinvestment in vital infrastructure, such as roads and water systems. Despite the council allocating 19 million euros for 2026 investments targeting security and urban infrastructure upgrades, opposition members questioned the accuracy of these figures, suggesting inflation of the amounts.
