Tour de France Femmes 2026 Stage 8 Preview: Sprinters Eye Victory on Challenging Sisteron-Nice Route

The eighth stage of the Tour de France Femmes 2026, held on August 8, will cover 171.9 kilometers from Sisteron to Nice, marking the longest and one of the most demanding days of the race. While officially categorized as a flat stage, it presents significant challenges with four fourth-category climbs and an elevation gain totalling 1,864 meters.

The route begins with the col des Robines, a 2.6 km ascent at an average gradient of 4.6%, followed by the 6.4 km col de Toutes Aures with a gentler slope of 3.1%. After these early climbs, the course descends alongside the Var River before entering the Nice metropolitan area. The final stretch includes two more climbs: the côte de Colomars, a steep 1.4 km at 5.4%, and the côte de la Ginestière, 2.5 km at 4.4%, situated less than eight kilometers from the finish line. These late hills could disrupt the typical mass sprint expected on the famed Promenade des Anglais.

Coming off a thrilling stage seven where Kasia Niewiadoma Phinney secured victory atop Mont Ventoux and took the yellow jersey, the peloton now faces a stage that offers sprinters one final opportunity to shine. Lorena Wiebes, wearing the green jersey and already a two-time stage winner in the event, is the favorite to claim her third victory. However, she will need to navigate the challenging climbs near the finish carefully. The balance of the day could see strong contenders attempting breakaways on the final ascent to counter a mass sprint.
