Tragic Car Accident in Gard Linked to Nitrous Oxide Inhalation Claims Three Young Lives

In the early hours of Wednesday near Alès, in the Gard region of France, a devastating car accident claimed the lives of three adolescents. The vehicle was found submerged upside down at the bottom of a private swimming pool. The tragic discovery was made after the alarm was raised by a nearby homeowner around 5:45 AM, leading firefighters to drain the pool to retrieve the car and its occupants.

Among the victims were two minors aged 14 and 15, and a 19-year-old man with a known history of drug trafficking. Investigations revealed that the 14-year-old was driving the vehicle when it lost control, crashed into a wall, and ended up submerged in the pool. Authorities found several nitrous oxide canisters inside the car, suggesting that the occupants may have been inhaling the gas at the time of the accident.

Abdelkrim Grini, the public prosecutor of Alès, described the incident as a horrific accident with no chance of survival for those inside the vehicle. He indicated that the victims most likely drowned, trapped unable to escape the overturned car in the cold water. An autopsy and further inquiry have been ordered to precisely determine the cause of death.

This tragedy highlights the potential dangers associated with nitrous oxide inhalation, a concern increasingly reported in medical settings, though the connection to this specific accident is still under investigation.
