Voter Turnout Rises in First Round of 2026 French Municipal Elections

The first round of the 2026 municipal elections in France on March 15 saw increased voter engagement compared to the 2020 municipal elections. In Morbihan, voter participation at 5 PM reached 52.61%, a notable rise from 43.68% in 2020. Similarly, Tremblay-en-France witnessed an increase in turnout to 42.09%, up from 31.62% in the previous elections. Other lists included Amel Jaouani’s "Réinventons Tremblay" with 12.53%, Laëtitia Matiatos’ "Réussir Tremblay" with 12.01%, and Ali Hocini’s "Vivre Tremblay" garnering 11.57%. Blank votes decreased, standing at 0.85% compared to 2.5% in 2020. Candidates have until 6 PM on the fifth day after the election to contest the results with the administrative court. While participation rates varied across municipalities, the overall trend suggests heightened electoral involvement in this cycle.
