Arc France Enters Judicial Recovery Amid Market Challenges, Raising Employment Concerns

Arc France, a historic glass manufacturer in Arques, Pas-de-Calais, has officially entered judicial recovery proceedings as announced by the commercial court on January 7, 2026. The company, established in 1825 and employing around 3,500 people, has faced severe and continuous market degradation leading to this critical step. Despite previous state-supported refinancing plans, including a €42 million plan approved in April 2024 and a €30 million state loan, the competitive pressure from cheaper Asian imports has significantly impacted operations.

The judicial recovery aims to maintain the company's operations and explore potential acquisition projects that could guarantee industrial continuity. However, there is concern over significant layoffs, with estimates of up to 500 jobs at risk. Timothée Durand, from the founding family, is expected to present a serious and realistic recovery proposal to navigate these challenges.

In response, numerous stakeholders, including the state, the Hauts-de-France regional council, the Pas-de-Calais departmental council, local intercommunalities like CAPSO and CCPL, and the municipality of Arques, are coordinating efforts to support the workforce and their families. A key meeting with labor unions is scheduled for January 8, 2026, at the prefecture to discuss the situation and potential support measures.
