Banque de France Forecasts 0.2% GDP Growth for France in Q3 2026 Amid Heatwave Challenges

The Banque de France projects a modest 0.2% growth in France's GDP for the third quarter of 2026, a slight optimism compared to Insee's forecast of 0.1% growth. This forecast aligns with the previous quarter's growth but is tempered by uncertainties from increasing heatwaves and international economic conditions that may hamper business activities.

Industrial activity showed growth in July, although at a slower pace than anticipated, with the apparel and aeronautics sectors facing specific challenges. Technological investments have boosted industrial production, especially in electrical equipment tied to data center growth and infrastructure electrification. Services have progressed slowly, with sectors like automotive repair and accommodation benefiting from tourism, whereas restaurants and leisure have been negatively impacted by the extreme heat.

The construction sector has been affected by the heatwaves but remains active, notably in installing cooling systems for public buildings. The energy sector is expected to rebound after a six-month decline, driven by increased electricity consumption during recent heatwaves.

The worsening drought has left two-thirds of groundwater levels below normal, adding to economic uncertainties. Despite these challenges, business leaders remain cautiously optimistic about August’s economic outlook.
