Fatal Alès Car Crash: Nitrous Oxide Found, Three Young Victims Drowned in Submerged Vehicle

On December 3, 2025, a tragic car accident in the Tamaris neighborhood of Alès, France, resulted in the deaths of three young individuals aged 14, 15, and 19. The Peugeot 207 lost control around 2 AM, crashed through a wall, and plunged upside down into a private swimming pool. It was only discovered around 6 AM by a local baker who alerted emergency services. Firefighters had to drain the pool to recover the bodies.

The victims likely drowned in the freezing water, trapped inside the submerged vehicle, unable to open the doors, according to Alès prosecutor Abdelkrim Grini. Nitrous oxide capsules, commonly known as "laughing gas," were found inside the car, but it remains unclear if the occupants consumed the substance. The victims' bodies have been sent to the Nîmes forensic institute for autopsies, including toxicology analysis to clarify the role of nitrous oxide.
