FFF Condemns Hate Speech Against Women's Team After Euro 2022 Exit

Following the French women's football team's exit from Euro 2022, the French Football Federation (FFF) has condemned an outpouring of hate speech directed at the players. The team, known as "Les Bleues," was eliminated by Germany in the quarter-finals on penalties after a 1-1 draw. The FFF emphasized that "Rien ne peut justifier de telles manifestations de haine" (Nothing can justify such manifestations of hate), reflecting its commitment to respect and solidarity within the sport.

In their statement, the FFF expressed firm support for the players and vowed to report the hate speech to France's national unit against online hate for further investigation and potential penalties. Goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin criticized the online abuse, stating, "Since yesterday, social media has become a space of violence, racism, and insults... And that is unacceptable!" She highlighted the damaging impact of such hostility, especially in the aftermath of a disappointing loss.

Defender Selma Bacha has been specifically targeted with online vitriol, facing backlash for her comments post-match regarding Germany’s qualification, which she deemed "not deserved."
