The UK Health Security Agency anticipates further increases in cases, with 378 invasive meningococcal infections reported during the 2024-2025 period, predominantly type B.

In France, bacterial meningitis cases have been rising since 2022, prompting intensified vaccination campaigns. Vaccination against multiple meningococcal strains has become mandatory for infants nationwide. According to official figures, France recorded 616 meningitis cases in 2024, marking a 10% increase compared to 2023 and the highest total since 2010. Muhamed-Kheir Taha, head of the national reference center for invasive infections at the Institut Pasteur, stated unequivocally that the risk of a meningitis epidemic in France remains unchanged despite increased vigilance.

The rise in cases since 2022 is attributed to intensified social interactions post-COVID and evolving bacterial strains. Health authorities emphasize symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, and rash as warning signs.
