France Advances Heavy Transport Electrification with Industry Event and Green Transport Leadership

France is demonstrating significant momentum in the electrification and sustainability of its heavy transport sector in 2026. Concurrent with rising energy prices, industry stakeholders are focusing on electric mobility as a competitive and environmentally crucial alternative to traditional fossil fuels.

On April 28, EDF is hosting a pivotal round table titled "Électrifier l’économie," dedicated to accelerating the transition of heavy road transport to electric solutions. This event, taking place at the Sky Center of the World Trade Center Marseille Provence, will feature key players across the transport value chain including professional federations, national and regional transporters, and heavy truck manufacturers. Speakers Tariel Chamerois, president of the Sustainable Development Commission at Union TLF and Director of Sustainable Development at DSV France; Adrien Magnan, director of the Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône agency for Logtrans; and Gilles Montastier, sales director at Renault Trucks Provence, are set to share expertise on deployment stages, challenges, and insights necessary for broad electrification adoption.

Meanwhile, the Auvergne-based company Multitransport, honored as "Transporteur de l'Année 2026" by L'officiel des transporteurs, exemplifies practical green transition in the sector. Founded in 1945 and now led by Olivier Jamon, Multitransport has evolved from local minibus services to a comprehensive logistics and transport operation. Committed to sustainability, the company is engaging in alternative fuels like biogas and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and plans to introduce electric trucks for routine routes from June 2026. Olivier Jamon highlights the importance of improving the transport industry's image and actively contributing to decarbonization efforts, especially underscored during the COVID-19 crisis when the company ensured uninterrupted delivery of essential goods.

These developments reflect a concerted national strategy towards reducing the carbon footprint of the heavy transport industry by embracing electrification and sustainable fuels. The EDF round table and Multitransport’s transition efforts both underscore the sector’s evolving landscape and readiness to meet environmental commitments and economic challenges.
