France is currently enduring a severe heatwave stretching across nearly the entire country, with temperatures soaring up to 40°C in some regions. Concurrently, the nation is grappling with worsening drought conditions, reaching record levels as reported by Météo-France. This extreme weather situation has heightened concerns regarding environmental sustainability and public health impacts.

In response to the escalating wildfire risks exacerbated by these climatic extremes, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has commissioned a group of seven parliamentarians—comprising four deputies and three senators—to propose new measures aimed at strengthening wildfire prevention and management. This multidisciplinary team, which includes representatives such as Sophie Panonacle and Didier Lemaire, is tasked with delivering recommendations by September 21. Their proposals are expected to inform enhancements to the existing 'Sécurité civile' law and influence the 2027 government budget.

Lecornu highlighted the unprecedented nature of the wildfire seasons driven by climate change, indicating a pressing need for additional aerial firefighting resources and revisions to clearance regulations to mitigate fire risks effectively. Alongside this mission, Lecornu previously engaged five experts dedicated to reconstructing wildfire-impacted areas, focusing on economic recovery and future resilience.
