France Launches 100,000 Euro Prize to Promote Laïcité for 120th Anniversary

France is gearing up to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the 1905 law separating Church and State with the introduction of the Prix de la laïcité 2025. This award has a significant budget of 100,000 euros aimed at recognizing projects that promote and explain the principle of laïcité, a cornerstone of French republican values that ensures freedom of conscience and the neutrality of the State.

The Prix de la laïcité was launched to encourage various stakeholders, including associations, schools, and local governments, to develop initiatives that celebrate laïcité. Special emphasis will be placed on projects related to the 120th anniversary, which can include cultural events, educational resources, and online awareness campaigns. Applications for this prestigious prize will be accepted until October 20, 2025, with a ceremony planned for December 9, 2025, coinciding with the anniversary itself.

Since its inception, the prize has gained popularity, seeing over 400 submissions in the last four years, showcasing a diverse array of projects. This initiative aims to foster greater understanding and appreciation of laïcité within French society, promoting dialogue around this vital principle that shapes public life in France.
