France Launches Innovative Financial Education Tools Including Interactive Online Games

The Banque de France has updated its ABC collection to enhance financial education for the 2026 school year, introducing nearly 80 educational sheets and 40 short videos with quizzes to help citizens better understand economic concepts. A new online game called 'Gardiens de la Monnaie' allows users to explore monetary policy issues interactively, either solo or in teams, making it useful for classroom activities. Complementing this, an independent creation called 'La Bataille du Budget' puts players in the shoes of France’s Minister of Public Accounts, challenging them to reduce the deficit from 5.9% of GDP to below 3% by 2030 and decrease national debt by 2032. This game involves managing over 200 budgetary measures from various political programs while maintaining political popularity above 15% to avoid dismissal. It highlights the complex balance between fiscal responsibility and political constraints, including external pressures like international crises and the European Commission. Together, these initiatives, created by the Banque de France and former government advisor Rayan Nezzar, aim to demystify financial and economic decision-making and engage a wide range of citizens, from students to policymakers, in understanding France's economic challenges.
