France Sends Military Support to Saudi Arabia Amid Intensified Houthi Attacks on Yanbu

Saudi Arabia has recently intercepted ballistic missiles launched by Houthi forces targeting several regions, including the holy city of Mecca. In response to the escalating attacks, France has committed to deploying military resources, including troops and defense systems, to protect the strategic oil terminal at Yanbu—a crucial hub for Saudi oil exports linked to the East-West pipeline.

The intensified Houthi offensive follows the end of a truce in July and includes a naval blockade that threatens oil tankers and controls significant stretches of Yemeni coastline essential to Saudi oil shipment. The Saudi-led coalition reported intercepting six missiles aimed at Taif and Yanbu. The conflict in Yemen continues to be fierce, with over 150 fighters killed within a 24-hour span, highlighting the heavy toll on both sides.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced this military support during an interview on TF1 and France 2, emphasizing France’s role in safeguarding Yanbu against these ongoing threats. Macron’s statement underscores France’s geopolitical involvement amid increasing regional instability.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has denied that Tehran directs Houthi operations, maintaining that the group acts autonomously.

This development marks a significant escalation in France’s active military role in the Middle East, aiming to secure critical energy infrastructure and support an ally under attack amidst a deepening regional conflict.
