French Local Communities Launch Initiatives to Revitalize Economy and Commerce

In a bid to boost local economic vitality and commercial appeal, several French communities are implementing targeted initiatives. In the Haut Pays of Menton, the villages of Breil, Tende, and Sospel have jointly created a "manager of commerce" role, supported 50% by the state and 20% by the Carf, with the remainder shared among the municipalities. This position, affiliated with the Riviera française community, aims to revitalize commerce by reducing vacancies, supporting current merchants, attracting new businesses, and monitoring economic developments. The manager's approach will be guided by a commercial study funded by the Banque des territoires, with Mayor Sébastien Olharan underscoring the critical need for such local economic development measures after missing previous opportunities.

Meanwhile, in the Libournais region, the Tecap association held its annual meeting at Château Mauperier and outlined ongoing and future projects. Tecap focuses on various themes including mental health for leaders, cybersecurity, scams, and climate-related prevention. It continues to foster local business connections through themed evenings and networking events such as Tecap Business Expresso and Tecap Business Apéro. The association also promotes its coworking space, G-Co, which hosts about 20 regular coworkers. Notably, Tecap is organizing "Local Attitude," an event set for June 2027, which will highlight the circular economy. To encourage local enterprise engagement, Tecap offers the first year of membership free to companies supported by the Castillon-Pujols community council.

These initiatives reflect a coordinated effort by French localities to enhance economic resilience and attractiveness by creating supportive roles and fostering sustainable business ecosystems.
