Injury Blow for XV de France as Atonio and Boudehent Out; Colombe and Roumat Called Up

The French national rugby team faces significant setbacks ahead of the 2026 Six Nations Tournament as key players Uini Atonio and Paul Boudehent will miss the opening match against Ireland due to injuries. Coach Fabien Galthié has responded by calling up Georges-Henri Colombe and Alexandre Roumat as replacements.

Atonio suffers from an intercostal tear, while Boudehent is sidelined with cervical issues sustained during the recent Top 14 weekend. The absences exacerbate concerns at the right prop position, already a challenging spot for the team. Dorian Aldegheri has presented difficulties in team cohesion previously, and Colombe’s inconsistent performances add further uncertainty. Additionally, Tevita Tatafu, another possible prop option, remains out due to injury this season, leaving the door open for Régis Montagne, who featured in the last autumn tour but without notable impact.

Compounding the challenge, Thibaud Flament will also be absent for personal reasons related to his wife's health, prompting Joshua Brennan's inclusion in the squad. The team now features 14 Toulouse players among the 42 selected, reflecting Galthié's adjustments as France prepares to host Ireland at Stade de France on February 5.

These injuries and personal absences leave Galthié without three regular starters, complicating France's preparation efforts for the highly anticipated tournament opener. The squad's depth will be tested as they seek to maintain momentum despite these forced changes.
