Macron Urges Diplomacy After Israeli-American Strikes on Iran, Affirms France’s Non-Involvement

In response to recent Israeli-American military strikes against Iran, French President Emmanuel Macron has stressed the critical need for diplomatic engagement rather than military solutions. At a defense council meeting on February 28, Macron declared that France was neither warned nor involved in the offensive, emphasizing that the crisis surrounding Iran's nuclear program cannot be resolved through force.

Macron highlighted the importance of respecting the Iranian people's legitimate rights, especially their desire to shape their own future amid ongoing repression. He noted that France is prioritizing the safety of its citizens and military presence in the Gulf region, while also supporting countries vulnerable to Iranian retaliation.

The French president has communicated extensively with Middle Eastern leaders from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Jordan, Iraq, and Kuwait—but notably excluded Israel—to urge restraint and prevent further escalation. He condemned the surge in tensions as "dangerous for all" and called on the Iranian regime to engage in good faith negotiations to dismantle its nuclear and ballistic programs.

Reaffirming France's readiness to assist its regional partners, Macron underscored that military strikes are not a viable solution and that diplomatic efforts must "reclaim their rights." His stance reflects France's commitment to de-escalation and dialogue amidst rising Middle East tensions.
