On June 3, 2025, a significant public forum was held in Nîmes, Gard, focusing on the vital support for victims of domestic violence. Organized by the Family Protection House in collaboration with various institutional and associative partners, the event aimed to create a comprehensive support pathway for those affected by domestic abuse.
In 2024, 1,740 women in Gard experienced incidents of domestic violence. However, recent statistics indicate a positive shift, with a 3.3% decrease in domestic violence cases reported in the first five months of 2025, attributed to the state's proactive measures through the departmental plan initiated by the Minister of the Interior in February 2025. The forum addressed a wide range of concerns relevant to victims, featuring eight specialized stands providing information on filing complaints, victim protection, legal assistance, family rights, and health services.
“The forum was designed to not only assist victims but also to inform about the resources available to support both victims and perpetrators of domestic violence,” stated Jérôme Bonet, the Prefect of Gard. This initiative underscores the state's commitment to reducing domestic violence and supporting affected individuals effectively.
