On July 17, 2025, the French government officially recognized six communes in Seine-Maritime as natural disaster areas due to severe floods and mudslides that struck on June 13, 2025. The affected communes include Boos, Martainville-Épreville, Mesnil-Raoul, Montmain, Neuville-Chant-d'Oisel, and Saint-Aubin-Épinay. This recognition was published in the Journal officiel, providing vital support for residents seeking compensation for damages.
The classification is based on an analysis of precipitation levels from the event, indicating an occurrence with a return period of over ten years. However, two other communes, Cauville-sur-Mer and Octeville-sur-Mer, did not meet the criteria for this status as their precipitation levels were deemed insufficient for recognition.
To receive compensation for damages, residents must hold a natural disaster insurance policy and the disaster must be officially recorded in the Journal officiel. In response to the floods, the Ministry of the Interior has also initiated the i-CatNat platform, allowing municipalities to submit requests for disaster status recognition.
