Vendée Intensifies Water Usage Restrictions Amid Severe August 2026 Drought

The Vendée region in France is facing heightened water usage restrictions following a severe drought exacerbated by only 7 mm of rainfall in July, compared to the usual 48 mm. With potable water reserves down to 50% capacity and many local waterways drying up, the Prefect of Vendée has mandated stricter measures effective from August 17, 2026. These include bans on washing vehicles and cleaning surfaces unless done with closed-loop water recycling systems. The groundwater status varies with the Vendée Ouest and Marais Vendée areas under alert, while the Marais Autize faces a crisis level.
