Zinédine Zidane Leads France in First Training as Head Coach Ahead of Nations League

Zinédine Zidane held his inaugural training session as the head coach of the French national football team on September 21 at the Centre national du football in Clairefontaine. Taking over the reins from Didier Deschamps on July 28, Zidane's first session came just four days before France's opening UEFA Nations League match against Turkey.

Twelve of the twenty-three called-up players participated in the session, including notable stars like Eduardo Camavinga, Jules Koundé, and Dayot Upamecano. The training was marked by a serious and focused atmosphere, contrasting with the usual relaxed approach typical of early practices. Zidane was accompanied by his long-time assistant David Bettoni and former France goalkeeper Fabien Barthez, who now serves as goalkeeping coach.

Over fifty journalists were on-site to witness the event, underscoring the high expectations surrounding Zidane's new leadership. A staff of twelve supported the twelve players in training activities that included passing drills, a small-sided game, and shooting exercises with Zidane actively involved.

France's schedule under Zidane features four UEFA Nations League fixtures: away matches against Turkey and Belgium, followed by home games hosting Italy and Belgium. This session sets the tone for a new era in French football with a celebrated national icon at the helm.
