Sébastien Lecornu Unveils Governmental Roadmap to Unite Political Allies Ahead of 2026 Budget

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has presented a governmental roadmap to leaders of the common political base, which includes Renaissance, Les Républicains (LR), MoDem, Horizons, and the Union of Democrats and Independents (UDI). In his letter, Lecornu calls for unity among these parties despite their differing positions, emphasizing the necessity of collaboration to secure a budget for 2026.

The roadmap highlights key government priorities including reducing public spending, fiscal justice, and enhancing purchasing power by lowering certain taxes. Lecornu stresses that compromises are inevitable given the government’s relative parliamentary majority but insists these should be balanced with staying true to shared values. A significant measure outlined is the introduction of a new law aimed at combating tax and social fraud, expected to generate an additional €2.3 billion in revenue.

Security issues and the fight against irregular immigration remain top priorities, according to the roadmap. Lecornu describes the document as "incomplete by design," as he prepares to deliver his general policy statement to the National Assembly and finalize a ministerial team of approximately 25 members. Notably, some uncertainty remains over the participation of Les Républicains in the forthcoming cabinet.

According to sources, Lecornu wrote, "While staying true to our values, and acknowledging our differences, we have decided on a roadmap that brings us together." This underscores his strategic push for cohesion among the presidential camp and allied parties to implement the government’s agenda effectively.

The roadmap aims to build a cooperative political foundation to ensure the smooth passage of critical reforms and budgetary measures for the upcoming year, addressing fiscal challenges and social priorities facing France.
